Dana Mize& the big m ranch
This past week has been all about catching up. Filling you in and letting you see what our ranch is all about. So now we can get to the fun stuff we actually do on the ranch while we are waiting to move on the property. :) Since deer season has opened up and we have our OWN property to hunt on.... (sorry guys, got a little excited typing that!) Kindall and Brian have been in the stands every weekend. The first time we went to walk the property we ran across 3 or so deer, there is a creek that runs across the back of the ranch that is a great place for wildlife. Kindall Loo says she has seen Turkeys on the trails, ducks in the swamp, all kinds of different birds and a ridiculous mess of ant hills... which we will have to take care of at some point. The wildlife and living closer to the land is what I am most excited about. Spending time outside with the ranch animals and exploring different parts of the property. I simply cannot wait! I cannot wait for my children to get to experience growing up on a ranch/farm and taking technology out of life a little bit and really get to live a more simple life. Oooo So exciting. Anyway.... The Mize family has all been brought up on hunting. Brian is an avid hunter and as a southerner, where college football is king, He would take a day in the stand over any game, except the Clemson Carolina Game. :) Brian shot his first deer when he was 20 years old. (Picture below) Houston and Tammy would always tag along and camp out in the "Baked Potato" Airstream while Brian hunted. Not too long after spending MANY hunting trips in the same stand as Brian, Houston shot his first deer at 12 years old, Which just so happened to be on this same piece of property :) To follow suit, Kindall was also brought up and was trained how to safely handle firearms. She gave us all a run for our money and shot her first deer when she was 9 years old! Tammy enjoys the time when we all go hunting as well, to read, cook and spend time relaxing. There is nothing like hopping out of a stand from an early morning hunt and having T's hot homemade chili. Goodness Gracious alive! However, Tammy recently purchased her first set of her very own camo, hopped back in the stand and is co-hunting with Brian and Kindall. As for myself, I wasn't brought up on guns or handling firearms but I sure did learn a lot when I came into the Mize Family. I ended up working at a Gun Range and eventually getting my certification to teach Basic Firearm instruction to customers at the range. My specialty was helping women become more comfortable with handling firearms. Ever since my experience in the firearm industry, I have perfected my skills at handling and firing guns. I haven't shot my first deer so far, but I feel like this is the season! I am sure there will be an update if this takes place. :) My favorite thing about hunting is the few moments right as the sun is rising. How we, as hunters, are privileged to watch the wilderness come alive. The birds start tweeting, the sun hits the furry of little critters as they bounce around, the leaves light up when the sun beams through them. There is a stillness... to the air the wind through the trees the sky the sun and sometime the moon. It is something that will never be able to be experienced in words... only felt I am a firm believer that with proper training and practice you will protect yourself, can help feed yourself, and defend your family with a firearm. And out of all of us, you should probably be most afraid of Kindall! :) Disclaimer: We understand and are fully aware that not all people or families are going to agree with our life style of hunting, firearm handling & safety. However we professionally, responsibly & properly train our family members how to protect, provide, and defend themselves as early in life as possible. We age appropriately train and practice firearm safety, handling and firing. The good Lord above does not allow us to be on his creation to watch over our family forever and we want to see to it that our family, from grandparents to grandchildren, CAN and WILL take care of themselves in an event of necessity. We appreciate all comments, questions and concerns. We will respect other views and opinions as long as you respect ours. Carolina Love,
D.
