Dana Mize& the big m ranch
Since we have only had 1/2 the season to take full advantage of the property we all haven't been able to hunt together as much as we like but we have had a few instance to all get in a stand and go. Most the times Brian and Kindall go together and then there are times where we all go together. I can't wait until we can hop out of bed and just walk to a tree stand. That will be awesome! Hunting anytime you want. Shoot get off of work and go for an evening hunt. Wake up a little earlier on a Saturday and hunt! We went down a few weekends ago and occupied almost every stand we have placed on the property! Man, did we have a blast! We round everyone out of bed around 4:30, 5ish and head to the stands. The wind starting picking up and the wind chill was unseasonably freezing for South Carolina. Kindall and Tammy got down really early and I followed around 11am and then Brian and Houston brought up the rear a little after lunch time. Hopefully, we will be able to have hot cider and Bojangles Chicken biscuits hot and ready in the Plower when we get back, instead of having to crunch in my car for warmth!! ha ha ha :) After we left from hunting big game we started a new treasure hunt with an app called GeoCaching This is a real life scavenger hunt, compass and all! There is a map that allows you to see where players of this Life size game have hidden containers around your area... Let me expand... This game is WORLDwide People in all different countries are Geocaching in their spare time! There can be containers as small as film canisters all the way to Ammo cans, sometimes filled with neat goodies from previous finders! None the less, it is a fun game to take kids on and it gets you outside searching and often times leads you to some pretty neat places that could be in your "backyard" and you never knew they were there! So we hopped on board and found our very 1st Cache a mile from our new homestead! So you use your phone as a map and as a compass that takes you to the area where the container is hidden. Look close, look high and low, under rocks, in holes, up in trees, ANYWHERE. And when you find it, If you find it, sign the log, take and item (if there is one to take and replace with a new item for someone else to find) and place it back where it was. Then you are able to list on the app if you found it or not and what type of experience you had! Neat concept and something super fun to do on our way home! We let Kindall pick what we should take from the container. There were a few silly band bracelets, a few pennies, a single Kool Aid packet and this little guy below. Kindall thought it was the cutest thing. So now.. he is located in our Geocaching bag :) Hunting can take place no matter where you are.
Physically and mentally It is about keeping your senses heightened and your mind sharp. Meat on the table is great when you can make it happen. But just being there, outdoors, not glued to a computer screen or an iPhone is pretty dang sweet! So try it out, it is free, What do you have to lose? Yourself in the beauty and adventure of the outdoors? GREAT! Learn more about finding caches near you on GeoCaching.com Carolina Love, D.
