Dana Mize& the big m ranch
Tis' the season......right.... |
Little Flea finally realized, after licked up a dropped bit of Andes Mint, that we were the almighty Bark makers... and that she likes to Bark sooo we should give her our Bark...... She eventually ran to her daddy begging {and eventually pouting} because pups can't have chocolate!!! and hers just didn't understand Sorry Sophie!! |
Now you should have a beautiful mess of sweet bark! Go ahead and place your bark in the freezer for a few hours...maybe 2 or 3...just to be safe. We ant to make sure the bark is good and solid before we hack away at it and break it into chunks!!!!!
Viola! We have bark!!!
Frozen to sweet perfection!
Tip: After the bark comes out of the freezer you will want to pull up on the extra plastic wrap, parchment paper or aluminum foil to get your big ole' sheet of bark out of the pan!
Your heart will sing seeing the sight of a clean pan AND a finished chocolate project knowing there isn't any chocolate to scrape off anything!!!
Ahhhh..... see I treat you good!
I took the same meat tenderizing hammer and a long kitchen knife to hack away at the bark and break it into enjoyable pieces.
Trust me, this process of chipping away at the bark isn't graceful or quiet!
I definitely had fun feeling like an eskimo chipping away at a glacier to ice fish for a while... super fun!

Now is the time to call in your trusty Bowl licker!!! This one is REALLY a treat.... Kindall got the spot this time since she was the first one to claim dibs!!! They won't be disappointed THAT is for sure! Needless to say... |
By the end of the night there won't be any left, so grab yourself a piece and enjoy the holidays!!!
Come back for more as we visit different seasons and styles of easy bark and desserts! Please share the recipe if you like what you see and definitely tag us in your own photos if you post them anywhere!! We would love to see your variations of BARK. Send us your variations and we will pick one to feature in our upcoming post of Seasonal Bark!
Merry Christmas from our farmly to yours!

This dip is fun and easy to make, perfect, quick dish to bring to a party or luncheon at work.
It literally tastes just like the sandwich!

Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Dip
Your ingredients:
1 Head of Lettuce
1 lb of bacon or more... you can never have too much Bacon
1 tomato
2 cups mayonnaise
2 8oz container of Sour Cream
A pinch of Salt
A dash of Pepper
As much shredded Mozzarella as you like
Trifle Dish or a head of lettuce to plate the dip

First things first.
Go ahead and start frying up your bacon. You have a whole pound so it will take a bit of time.
Get it on the skillet and start the poppin' n sizzlin'

While your piggies are in the skillet
Take the Head of lettuce and shred it into very small bite size pieces, remember this is a dip, to fit on a chip or pita bread, not a salad!
I ended up shredding the whole head before I knew it. If you are going to use the entire head you will have to Double all of your ingredients!
Slice and dice that whole tomato.
Remember Small pieces you could scoop up in a chip
I took the seeds out but that is personal preference.

At this point you may leave your veggies to the side.
Go ahead and mix together your Mayo, Sour Cream and Mozzarella.
I had to play with the taste of the Sour Cream and Mayo. I personally like the heavy Mayo taste in this dip, so it tastes just like the sandwich.
Feel free to add more or less.
Either way you go
Make sure to mix it up very well,
you don't want pockets of just sour cream or just Mayo
Unless that is what you are going for
Then knock yourself out!

Once your bacon is finished let it rest on a plate with a napkin on it
So that it will soak up the grease.
Between you and me...
If you want to let a little bit drizzle in there
I won't say anything if you won't!

I finally got to use the Pampered Chef Slap Chopper for the bacon
I basically made fresh Bacon Bits for this dip.
Chop, Chop, Chop

Chop, Chop, Chop
Once your chopping is done
Mix ALL of your ingredients in your bowl of choice.
The Salt and Pepper are added to taste.
I saved a little bit of each ingredient to garnish the top. It made a very colorful and delicious appetizer!
Then Plate it with PLENTY of chips, pita chips, Fritos, Melba Snack, Pita Pockets. Whatever.
And Enjoy!
Simple. Cute. Festive. and probably something NO One has ever seen before.

I like the idea of cramming it into cherry tomatoes as a finger food!
So clever!

Boxed Sugar Cookies
It is almost a nightly ritual to make something sweet in the Mize house. Weather it is cookies, cake, icecream, fun size bites of chocolate, or here recently, leftover Halloween candy, something sweet follows dinner like clock work.
So, We turned it up to 350 degrees, broke out the Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix and busted open my new Wilderness Cookie Cutters, we got at IKEA the other week, to make some sweet treats.
Assemble your ingredients:
1 box of the cookie mix of your choice
1 egg
1 stick of room temperature butter
Go ahead and preheat the oven to 350
Our oven is over the hill old and never cooks at the same temperature or time so you have to keep an eye on it.
This is something we will be taking care of in our new homes down on the farm.. and can't wait for an oven that is younger than we are! ha ha ha
We ended up having them in the over for 12 minutes.

2. Crack the egg into the mix (you know that is one of your favorite parts) 4. When all of your ingredients are combined in the bowl.. MIX, MIX, MIX until the cows come home....well until it is all blended well with a consistency where balls of dough can be formed. 5. Break out the greased cookie sheet and start plopping down tablespoon sized balls. Feel free to roll the dough out over a table of flowers to use your favorite cookie cutters. | Directions:
3. Cut the butter into small sections and rake it into the bowl 6. We ended up not having dough to make everyone a Moose cookie, Soo others got Snails, foxes and hedgehogs. Others were rolled into balls |
Well, I didn't keep my eye on the oven... :/
Mistake #1
Kindall asked me if I smelled something burning...
after running through the house and slipping on the tile into a wall
then realizing the cookies were not worth all of that mess...
Upon reaching the oven after my battle with the tile and the wall
it was indeed our cookies...
I opened the oven to find our cookies the color of REAL Yukon Moose.
BLACK and BROWN
and this ladies and gents,
is the reason I do not have an ending photo..
but some of the ladies on Google seem to have their shit together
and I would imagine ours would have turned out something like this...
