Dana Mize& the big m ranch
Houston and Dana, along with Brian and Tammy, and their daughter Kindall are selling their junk, getting rid of the excess, downsizing, rightsizing and leftsizing to a 50 acre tract of land to simplify their lives and move towards a more natural and organic state of life. They are in the process of prepping the area, their minds, their bodies and most importantly..their wallets and adding out buildings and shelters to make their stay, while getting ready to build their homes, more enjoyable a stress free.
Their property consist of mainly forest, woodlands and dense swamp areas around the property with an open homestead site for Houston and Dana's home and cleared roads throughout the property.
They are working towards bush hogging and clearing out a 16+ acre pasture for their farm elements and for Houston's Diesel and Hot rod customs shop. They are also working towards clearing and grading a homestead site for Brian, Tammy and Kindall across the way from Dana and Houston's.
Houston is the son of Brian and Tammy. He met Dana in 2009, they went to high school together and they got married, 5 years later, in September of 2014.
Brian and Tammy also met when they were in high school and got married in 1986.
They had Houston when Tammy was 25 and Kindall popped up 11 years later!
Kindall is a brave, smart, witty, beautiful young lady that isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in & who she believes in! She isn't afraid to get down and dirty on the farm but will knock your heart out when she gets all dolled up.

We are normal people
caught in the rat-race of schedules, time constraints, deadlines, meetings, be here, go there, stuff..stuff..stuff..
and we simply decided to start working towards a change.
a big change.
Houston graduated from the Nascar Technical Institute in 2012 and went on to work for Ford Motor Company. He is now a seasoned Diesel Technician and has a real, raw passion for vehicles. It is such a deep passion, I hope everyone gets to experience the same amount of soul satisfaction one day. Houston enjoys all different genres of music, minus a large amount of country music. He has acquired a joy of craft beers. He enjoys hunting deer, ducks and turkey. But once again, he would rather spend the day tinkering on an old car than anything else! Houston wouldn't mind building and retiring from a career as a dealership technician but he also believes he will find more satisfaction with opening his very own custom Hot Rod and/or Diesel shop and work from our Farmstead.

I have been in the Death Care Industry for roughly 6 years. I started on my 16th birthday at a funeral home in my hometown and worked their throughout high school. Black suits...I mean... The works! I left the funeral business shortly after graduating high school to pursue something different and really make sure that the death care industry was a calling. During that time I started working with firearm suppressors and broke into the firearm industry. I started working at a firearm range selling firearms and eventually became an NRA certified Beginner Pistol and Rifle firearm Instructor. With a focus on women and firearms, I began to teach them the proper anatomy of a firearm, how to load, fire and unload the firearm and also different defense tactics.
In 2012, my local hospital system called to see if I was interested in a job creating and running a Whole Body Donation program partnered with a medical school. I believed this was a a major door opening back up into the Death Care Industry, so I ran through it. Mine and my husband's goal is to eliminate all of our debt, drop our overhead to a minimum, and enjoy life well before retirement! |
Brian broke into the Construction field after being born with the Construction gene bred into him at birth! He is a second generation General Contractor and has been in the industry for his entire life. However, he is getting to a point in life where he wants to scale back, slow down and really enjoy what Jesus has blessed him with. With the help of his family and the good lord above he is also working on his exit plan for becoming a full time hobby farmer. Brian really enjoys hunting as a passion. I am sure he will say his favorite way to spend the wee hours of the morning is with his butt glued to a tree stand! Brian accounts the perfect idea of each morning by saying, " I don't know if I necessarily want to be a "full time" farmer... it would be nice just to wake up, throw on a pair of boots, grab a cup of coffee, sit on the front porch and decided....What do I want to do today? and do just that! Whatever I want to do..."

Tammy has always embraced the idea of having a family that is closer than most people are comfortable to even talk about. She yearned for relationships that would foster the love, compassionate and care nature needed to keep a cohesive family in a world where it is advertised and easy to isolate and separate. Tammy has worked in the Jewelry Industry for over ___ years with a background in gemology. Tammy also wanted an exit plan from the 9-5 life and has found that at the farm, with her family and nothing but hard work and an abundant future in store.
Tammy sees herself more as a "Farmers Market, Festival, produce/product sellin', chicken raising, farm fresh egg fryin', lady on a farm than any other version of herself!" and dang it, that is what she is going to be!!! |
Kindall is a vibrant, smart, funny young lady and her job is to navigate the world of high school. She has a heart with that filled with the love of Jesus Christ and she her core morals and values are set in living life for him and by his plan for her. Right now, Kindall is trying to develop what she wants to do in life. At this moment, she would like to continue to graduate in 2020 and pursue a career as a Dental Hygienist. She has a wonderfully funny and charismatic personality that would make any public service occupation an absolute breeze!

The Farmstead
Our farmstead is still close to all the modern day conveniences but once you get out here...you feel like you are in a whole nother' world. We are not completely off grid nor is it our goal to be completely off grid. Our goal is the be as self-sufficient as possible. We still have running water, indoor plumbing, electricity and heating and air. We are living Tiny until we are able to build our homes ourselves {1 home down, 1 to go!}. We have big plans to make our farm as eco and energy efficient as possible with Solar panels, wind turbines and water turbine systems in the near future.
The real adventure has begun. We have been living on our homestead for 3 years now and have built Dana and Houston's Home. It took us working nights and weekends for a year and a half but we have one home place down!
Until next time follow our site. Like,Share,Tweet,Post,Comment right along with us as we research and find new sustainable ways to live our American Dream.
